PORTLAND, OR -  On Friday, October 4th, Cleveland High School (CHS) Bands will have an 8-hour "Play-A-Thon" to raise money for their music program. The students of six different CHS bands will entertain with a variety of music, all afternoon and night from 4 pm to 11:15 pm. Hear the music live in the CHS auditorium; those who can't make it to the show can watch it live-stream. The concert is free, but it’s linked to a fundraising campaign.

Why does the Band Need to Raise Money?

CHS Bands receive no direct funds from the school district. The Play-a-thon is the main fundraiser for CHS Bands and is the primary source of operating expenses for the band program. Donations support the basic needs of running a high school band program including:

  • purchasing sheet music
  • subsidies for performance attire
  • travel to festivals and parades
  • solo and ensemble registrations
  • specialist teacher support

The students themselves, with help from teachers and parents, are doing the work to raise money for their own program.
