The “Phenomenal Concert” is a musical journey of Blues and Gospel in America. This musical story comes from the cradle of birth in Africa, the field hollers of slaves, growing up to the Blues of the Mississippi Delta and maturing to cities like Chicago. The Blues and Gospel music have been major art forms used for communication, inspiration and healing since the days of slavery. Attendees are invited to learn the history of American music and celebrate its continued journey.

The Norman Sylvester Band hosts an all-star line-up: LaRhonda Steele Gospel Quartet, Lenanne Sylvester Miller, Renato Caranto, Peter Moss, Shoehorn, Tevis Hodge Jr., DanceMode, Tribute to the memory of Chata Addy, featuring OB Addy & Kweki Ward. History narration will be by Lynn Darroch.

Louisiana born Norman “Boogie Cat” Sylvester has been performing in schools for decades, teaching the history of American music. Sylvester’s performances show the students how contemporary musical genres of R & B, Rock, Funk and Hip Hop all came from the Soul of Blues and Gospel. He acknowledges that our country is currently going through many issues of race, equality and social justice, but says we can always come together around music.

The concert will be held at Alberta Rose Theatre, 3000 NE Alberta Street, Portland on Friday Oct. 18, 2019, from 7:00 pm until 11:00 pm. Tickets can be purchased at albertarosetheatre.com/calendar.html.
