Police took a 15-year-old boy to a hospital for a mental health evaluation after he threatened to burn down De La Salle North Catholic High School.

Youth Services Division officers went to the school, at 7528 North Fenwick Avenue, Thursday Oct. 2 at 4:34 pm after reports that a student was threatening to burn down the school.

Police took the 15-year-old student into custody from the principal's office. Officers learned that the student left school then returned after classes had been dismissed with a gas can and matches. He reportedly went into the chemistry room where he indicated an intent to light his notebook on fire.

No fire was ever started and the student voluntarily went with the principal to the office.

The investigation is continuing.
