To support local students heading back to school in the fall, OnPoint Community Credit Union announced today it will give an additional $5 for every $1 donated to the KGW School Supply Drive at OnPoint branches between August 9-14 (with an OnPoint donation max of $30,000). OnPoint branches will also be accepting school supply donations, which will stay in the community in which the donation was made, going directly to help local teachers and students, and distributed with the help of Schoolhouse Supplies.

The KGW School Supply Drive, which runs through September 2, aims to send 12,000 students across Oregon and Southwest Washington back to school with the tools they need to succeed in the classroom. "With all the challenges we’ve faced this past year, providing children with a great education is essential to a better future for us all," said Rob Stuart, President and Chief Executive Officer, OnPoint Community Credit Union. "In Oregon, nearly half of all children cannot afford to start the school year with even the most basic school supplies. A donation of $25 will help one student start the year with the school supplies they need. We hope our community will join us to alleviate some of the pressure families are feeling as they send their children back to school."

As part of this year's drive, OnPoint will be hosting community Collection Events for new school supplies, cash, and used electronic devices with the help of Free Geek at its Lloyd Center Branch (1100 NE Weidler St., Portland, OR 97232) and at Intel Hawthorn Farm 3 (5200 NE Elam Young Pkwy, Hillsboro, OR 97124). Free Geek accepts nearly everything that plugs in or uses electricity, so the community is encouraged to bring reusable laptops, smartphones, tablets, e-readers, video systems, etc., in addition to new school supplies or cash.
