Monday evening, just after 8:15 p.m. crews were called to the campus of Lewis & Clark College for reports of multiple people injured due to a brick column that collapsed. Callers reported that one person was seriously injured, and people were performing CPR on him.

AMR was on the scene first and confirmed that one 19-year-old male student had died, and two 18-year-old female students were injured. They were both transported to a local hospital and their condition is unknown at this time.

Police spoke to students, and they did confirm that there were six people in three hammocks when the masonry column fell inward toward students. Monday was the first day of classes at the campus.

A statement released by the college said, "We are devastated to report that earlier this evening, a tragic accident occurred on the undergraduate campus in which one of our students was killed and two others were injured. We are working to contact the students’ families and will report more information as it becomes available. We are deeply saddened by the shocking loss of a member of our community."
