Portland Mayor Tom Potter will meet with residents in Beaumont-Wilshire, Cully, Rose City Park and surrounding neighborhoods from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at Blue Moose Café, 4936 N.E. Fremont St.
Community members are encouraged to sign up on-site for a chance to speak for 10 minutes with the mayor about issues important to them. Potter's "10-minute talks" are meant to talk to residents from different parts of the city about local community issues and ideas.
Potter will be accompanied by staff members, a neighborhood police officer and local community members who will provide information.
All residents from the host neighborhood and surrounding neighborhoods are invited to talk to the mayor. Due to the limited number of opportunities to meet with Potter, residents from other neighborhoods are asked to wait until meetings are hosted in their area. Residents of the host neighborhoods and closely surrounding neighborhood area will always receive priority over all other meeting requests.
Appointments to talk to the mayor are available for sign-up on a first-come basis beginning 30 minutes prior to the first meeting. Requests for meetings will not be accepted before that time.
Residents signing up for meetings need to verify their residency in the hosting neighborhood; the contact information also will be used to follow up on requests. Those seeking a "10-minute talk" will be asked to complete an information sheet on site, or the sheet can be downloaded at www.portlandonline.com/mayor; it should be completed and brought to the meetings.
Potter usually meets with an average of 10 people. Those who cannot meet with him are encouraged to fill out an information sheet at www.portlandonline.com/ mayor and turn it in. Potter, or a member of his staff, will follow up later.
Topics for the meetings are chosen by the person requesting the talk. For a list of topics discussed at previous meetings, visit the Web site under "Ten Minute Meetings."
For more information, call Carmen Rubio, community affairs director, 503-823-3578, or e-mail crubio@ci.portland.  or.us.
Other meetings are planned from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, in Sellwood-Moreland/Eastmoreland (location to be determined); and from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, in the Hillside/Sylvan/Arlington Heights neighborhoods at Hillside Center, 653 N.W. Culpepper Terrace.
