Kick off the new school year by designing a pair of socks to benefit Portland Public Schools.

Sock It to Me, the Portland-based manufacturer and designer of some of the wackiest socks you've ever seen – with Sasquatches, moustaches, Chihuahuas, you name it --  hosts its 7th Annual Design A Sock Contest, Sept. 9-20, to benefit art programs for PPS high school students.

Anyone can participate by sending in a unique design or image for consideration in Sock It to Me's next collection. For each sock design submitted, Sock It to Me will donate $1, with a maximum total donation of $15,000, as an Art Grant for Portland Public High Schools.

In addition to helping raise funds for the arts, entrants will also have their chance to win $1000 cash and have their winning design manufactured and worn by sock fans around the world.

Submit your unique design by downloading the design template here and either submitting the design electronically or mailing it to the Sock It to Me office by 3 p.m. on Sept. 20.

On Sept. 27, Sock It to Me will post the top 30 designs on their Facebook page and the public will be able to vote for their favorite.
