County commissioners in Washington, Clackamas and Yamhill counties selected State Rep. Courtney Neron yesterday to serve in Senate Dist.13. The district covers Wilsonville, Sherwood, King City, Tigard and parts of Beaverton and Yamhill County. It was most recently represented by the late Sen. Aaron Woods.

“With a little more than a month remaining in this legislative session, I am prepared to immediately advance key district priorities and honor the legacy of Senator Woods,” said Senator-designate Neron. “I grew up in Metzger, graduated from Tigard High, taught in Tigard-Tualatin and Yamhill-Carlton public schools, and now I’m raising my family in Wilsonville. These are not just places on a map to me—they are home. And I’ll keep working hard to make sure that our state government delivers for the people who live here.”

Neron, a Democrat representing House District 26, was elected to the Oregon House four times beginning in 2018. As an educator and a mother of school-aged children, her interests are strengthening schools, creating stable and affordable housing, expanding health care access, promoting public safety, supporting working families and fighting for thriving communities.

Her legislative achievements include helping pass 2019’s Student Success Act and modernization of the Toxic Free Kids Act. She has served as chair of the House Education Committee, co-vice chair of the legislature’s environmental caucus, and she is a member of the childcare caucus.

“I am honored to be selected for this role in the Senate, and I know we have important responsibilities ahead. My focus will stay on effective education policies, supporting our workforce, and protecting all that makes Oregon a great place to live, work and raise a family,” said the Senator-designate.

Senator Majority Leader Kayse Jama welcomed Neron to the Oregon Senate Democratic caucus, saying, “Senator-designate Neron is a thoughtful and dedicated leader for the people she serves, and I am looking forward to having her voice in the Oregon Senate.”

The time and place for Neron’s swearing in will be selected in the near future. She will serve out the remaining senate term that ends in January 2027.
