Tuesday is the deadline for Oregon voters registering for the May 18 primary election.
Oregonians registered either as Democrats or Republicans will have the opportunity to cast ballots for candidates for U.S. Senate, governor, Congress, the Oregon Legislature, state treasurer and local offices.
Voters will also decide the fate of two measures placed on the ballot by the Legislature and will vote on numerous non-partisan judicial, county, regional and city offices.
"In this election, voters will make important choices about the direction of our state and our country," said Oregon Secretary of State Kate Brown. "Oregon continues to face a grim economic climate and now more than ever all voices must be heard. Let Oregon know where you stand."
Since March 1, voters have been able to register to vote online by going to oregonvotes.org. Since the system went online, thousands of voter transactions, including new registrations, have been carried out electronically. Voters have until 11:59 p.m. tomorrow, that's Tuesday, April 27, to complete the online registration process.
Voters may also mail in voter registration cards or voter registration forms printed from www.oregonvotes.org, the Elections Division web site. Registrations sent by surface mail will be valid for the May 18 election if postmarked no later than April 27.
Voters can confirm that they are properly registered and will receive a ballot by going to the Voter Resources button at oregonvotes.org and clicking on Am I Registered to Vote?
Ballots will start going in the mail Friday April 30 to Oregon's 2.1 million registered voters and must be returned by mail or through an official drop site no later than 8 p.m. Tuesday May 18. Postmarks don't count for ballots.
