PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- The Philadelphia NAACP is denouncing a grand jury's clearing of several police officers of wrongdoing in the arrests last year of three shooting suspects, who were kicked and hit by officers as they lay on the ground.
The violent arrests were captured by a news helicopter.
NAACP president J. Whyatt Mondesire on Monday placed the blame on District Attorney Lynne Abraham, whose office led the grand jury investigation.
Mondesire says he didn't necessarily think that the officers had to be indicted, but said the grand jury could have condemned the police actions in its report rather than support them.
Abraham says citizens should read the grand jury report, which is available on the district attorney's office Web site.
