We’re celebrating another milestone in the storied career of LeBron James!

LeBron James has etched his name even deeper into the history of the NBA, becoming the first player to surpass 40,000 career points, according to NBC News. This momentous occasion unfolded during the March 2nd game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Denver Nuggets, marking yet another milestone in James’ legendary career. While James finished the game with an impressive 26 points, the Lakers faced a 114-124 defeat against the Denver Nuggets. Despite the setback, the night remained special, celebrating the amazing career of LeBron James.

Already holding the title of the NBA’s all-time leading scorer since last year–after surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s 38,387 career points–James entered the game just nine points away from reaching the 40,000-point mark. A layup in the second quarter secured the achievement, and another layup further solidified his place in basketball history. L.A. fans exploded in applause as James hit the 40,000-point. During a timeout, a brief ceremony unfolded, and a video tribute, titled “LeBron James ‘Scoring King’ Career Mixtape,” played, showcasing some of the highlights of James’ illustrious career.“No one has ever done it,” he said of scoring 40,000 career points at a postgame news conference. “For me to be in this position at this point in time in my career, I think it’s pretty cool. Does it sit at the top of the things I’ve done in my career? No. Does it mean something? Of course. Absolutely. Why wouldn’t it?”

As James approaches his 40th birthday later this year, his performances defy the conventional norms of retirement age for professional athletes. Having already started in 20 All-Star games in February and playing more minutes than any other NBA player past or present, James remains a force on the court. While acknowledging his numerous accomplishments, James has set additional professional goals, expressing his desire to play in the NBA alongside his sons, Bronny and Bryce. The dynamic athlete, always focused on the next challenge, shows no signs of slowing down.

A new generation of talented players, including the likes of Luka Dončić, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Donovan Mitchell Jr. has risen, but LeBron James continues to defend his fortress of points, remaining unmovable in the sport he has redefined. In the words of LeBron James himself, “It’s going to continue to go up until I’m done playing.”
