Local African American faith leaders, the NAACP, the Portland Police Bureau, and other community leaders will hold a prayer vigil at the Portland Convention Center near the MLK statue to reflect on the tragic brutality that led to the death of Tyre Nichols in Memphis, Tennessee. Though he planned to attend, Mayor Wheeler has jury duty that continues through today.
This peaceful gathering and vigil is scheduled on Tuesday, January 31, noon to 1 p.m. Meet at the Martin Luther King Jr. statue at the Oregon Convention Center, 777 NE Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Portland. This is a community event, open to the public.
