By The Skanner News | The Skanner News Published: 09 November 2023 The Safeway Foundation announces its 23rd annual Safeway Truckload of Coats drive benefiting Transition Projects and will be held on Friday, Nov. 10. The event also honors and recognizes the military services of veterans in the metro area during Veterans Day Weekend.
- The event collects adult cold weather coats and clothing items at 2 Safeway sites in the metro area on Nov. 10, and the Columbia Sportswear Employee Store – Nov. 10 - 12.
- Items are distributed to participants of Transition Projects – for those in housing, in shelter programs and for their navigation team to distribute to people they are working with who are currently experiencing homelessness. Items are also provided to sister agencies in need of winter items.
- Transition Projects holds the largest grants in the Pacific Northwest to house veterans experiencing, or on the verge of homelessness and will honor those who have served in the military at the event.
Drop-off Locations
The event will offer two drop-off Safeway locations: NW Cedar Mill Safeway (13485 NW Cornell Rd) and SE Powell Safeway (3930 SE Powell Blvd) from 7 a.m – 5 p.m. Plus, new this year – drop-off at the Columbia Sportswear Employee Store (14100 NW Science Park Dr.) from 8 a.m. – 9 p.m. Contributors will receive a $5 Safeway gift card plus a Columbia Sportswear Employee Store holiday shopping pass while supplies last.

- raincoats,
- waterproof pants,
- durable pants,
- waterproof shoes and boots,
- hats,
- gloves,
- hand warmers,
- underwear,
- and blankets.
