The Rev. Mary Overstreet-Smith is presented the John H. Jackson Award for her work with Hurricane Katrina victims by Bobbie Foster, executive editor of The Skanner.

 

Nearly 1,200 people attended The Skanner Foundation's 20th annual Martin Luther King Jr. breakfast in the Portland Convention Center. Among those attending were Preston Pulliams, Portland Community College district president; Gov. Ted Kulongoski,; members of the Bridge Builders; attorney Robert Stoll; Bridget Flannigan, with Safeway Northwest; Portland Sen. Avel Gordly; and Peter Kohler, president of Oregon Health & Science University.
