The National Weather Service issued a heat warning Tuesday as temperatures are forecast to reach the high 90s beginning today, Aug. 7 and lasting through Thursday.

Multnomah County will open a cooling shelter at the East County Building in Gresham on Tuesday, Aug. 7 through Thursday, Aug. 9. The shelter, at 600 NE 8th St #300, Gresham, will be open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

For information about the cooling center, contact 2-1-1 info. Transportation assistance is available to those in need.

Day centers serving neighbors experiencing homelessness will be open as they are most days of the year.

  • Schedule strenuous activities to early morning or late evening
  • Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Take frequent breaks in the shade or in air conditioned space
