A painting project on the Morrison Bridge will impact westbound traffic traveling from I-5 south this weekend. Beginning March 26 the westbound ramp from I-5 south to westbound downtown will close as early as 5 a.m. on Saturday and reopen by 8 p.m. on Sunday, March 27.

The ramp will close to allow a painting contractor working for Multnomah County to set up a work platform under the bridge.

Drivers can take the I-5 southbound exit to Belmont Street eastbound and come back across the Morrison Bridge westbound as an alternative route.  Only one westbound lane will be open on the bridge this weekend.

The westbound lane closure from the east entrance to the bridge at SE Grand Ave. to SW 2nd Ave. downtown remains closed through the end of the month for construction. Over the river the outside (north) westbound lane is also closed on the bridge. Except for this weekend, two westbound lanes are normally open across the river.

Steel bridges are repainted to prevent structural steel from corroding and losing strength. The project will identify and repair areas of steel that have corroded. Work will continue in 2023.

Multnomah County maintains the Morrison Bridge and five other Willamette River bridges. For more information, visit www.multco.us/morrisonpaint.
