Multnomah County Elections reminds voters that Tuesday, April 25, is the voter registration deadline for the May 16 Special District Election. Voters can drop off their ballots at over 30 Official Ballot Drop Sites; locations of five drop sites will be impacted by library construction.

The next election in Multnomah County is the May 16, 2023, Special District Election. The voter registration deadline for new Oregon voters is Tuesday, April 25. Make a plan today to register to vote or to check that you are registered to vote at your current address

Register to vote

You can register to vote online at oregonvotes.gov/register. To register to vote online, an eligible voter must have a valid Oregon driver’s license, permit or ID card. The online registration deadline is 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2023. 

If you do not have a valid Oregon driver’s license, permit or ID, or it has expired, you will need to register on a paper Oregon Voter Registration Card. Registration cards can be found at the Multnomah County Duniway-Lovejoy Elections Building at 1040 S.E. Morrison St. in Portland, picked up at any post office or public library, or printed from the election website. The deadline for mailing a paper Oregon Voter Registration Card is a U.S. Postal Service postmark of Tuesday, April 25, 2023. Voters can also register to vote in-person at the Duniway-Lovejoy Elections Building. Multnomah County Elections can accept voter registration forms from any Oregon resident. The deadline for in-person voter registration is 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, 2023.

Five Official Ballot Drop Sites have or will be moved due to library construction, but there are still more than 30 locations to serve voters.

All registered voters in Multnomah County will receive a ballot for this election. Ballots will be mailed out beginning April 26. 

Please check ahead if you plan to drop off your ballot at an Official Ballot Drop Site at a Multnomah County Library location. Construction projects made possible by a voter-approved library bond are impacting Official Ballot Drop Sites at five library locations including: 

  • Albina Library: The Official Ballot Drop Site has been moved outside. It is now located on N.E. Knott Street.
  • Central Library: The Official Ballot Drop Site has been moved outside. It is now located on S.W. 11th Avenue, on the west side of the library.
  • North Portland Library: The Official Ballot Drop Site will be moved to the corner of N. Killingsworth Street and N. Kerby Avenue on the Portland Community College campus.
  • Midland Library: The Official Ballot Drop Site will be moved to the parking lot of the Hansen Building, at N.E. Glisan Street and N.E. 122nd Avenue.
  • Holgate Library: The Official Ballot Drop Site will be moved to the plaza of Portland Mercado at S.E. Foster Road and S.E. 72nd Avenue.

Make a Plan to VOTE this May! 

As we approach the May 16, 2023, Special District Election, Multnomah County Elections is asking voters to Make a Plan to VOTE in May! Sign up for Track Your Ballot. 

The popular Track Your Ballot service is now available in multiple languages. You can choose to receive ballot alerts and updates in English, Spanish, Russian, Somali, Vietnamese or Chinese. Get a virtual “I Voted” sticker after you return your ballot. Multnomah County voters can sign up by visiting multnomah.ballottrax.net

Get, VOTE and return your ballot.

You will receive your ballot in the mail beginning April 26. If you have not received your ballot by Thursday, May 4, 2023, take action by calling Multnomah County Elections at 503-988-VOTE (8683) for a replacement ballot. 

After you vote, you have two choices in returning your ballot. You can vote early and return your ballot by mail — no stamp needed! Voted ballots must be postmarked by May 16, 2023 and received within 7 days, to be counted, 

You can also return your ballot to any 24-hour Official Ballot Drop Site in the state by 8 p.m. May 16, 2023. All Multnomah County Official Ballot Drop Sites, including Multnomah County Library Drop Sites and Multnomah County Elections buildings, are listed at multco.us/dropsites

Countdown to May 16 Election Day

  • Voters’ Pamphlet mailed to all residential households: April 18-19, 2023 
  • Voter registration deadline: Tuesday, April 25, 2023
  • Ballots begin to be mailed to voters: Wednesday, April 26, 2023
  • Gresham Voting Center Express opens: Monday, May 1, 2023
  • All voters should have received their ballot: Thursday, May 4, 2023
  • Election Day: Tuesday, May 16, 2023
  • Final election results are certified to special districts: Monday, June 12, 2023
