PORTLAND Ore., -  Rose Festival Princess From Leodis V. McDaniel High School Announced

On Thursday Julie  Liu was named a princess of this year's pourt. Julie is a junior at McDaniel High School and expects to graduate next June. After graduation, Julie hopes to earn her Ph.D. and become a bi-literate psychologist or psychiatrist.

Julie looks forward to representing her school and community as a member of the Court. She says, “I want to use my leadership, passion, and language to spread awareness and make room for change. As an Asian American woman, my experiences and perspectives help better promote diversity and inclusivity, effectively bridging both cultures. Becoming a member of the Rose Court would allow me to further my words with actions.”

Thinking about the Portland Rose Festival, Julia reminisced about her favorite event. “Growing up, I really enjoyed the Starlight Parade that came along every summer. In third grade, I decided to participate in the run and remember being so excited to sprint among many different outfits and colors. Runners gathered at the Lincoln High School field and fueled up with the rice cracker snacks provided. It took me till nightfall to finish, but I won’t forget how out of breath I was and how accomplished I felt as spectators cheered us on. It was a beautiful rush of lights and euphoria. A memory that I often revisit.”
