Charles Campbell, Ph.D., co-owner and publisher of the Arizona Informant newspaper, has died.
Campbell founded the Informant in 1971 with his brother, Cloves Campbell Sr. — Arizona's first Black state senator — in response to the dearth of news and information services among Phoenix's Black community. The paper, Arizona's only Black weekly, has gone on to earn acclaim and wide readership for its news reporting.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 5, at Tanner Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Phoenix. Arrangements were by Universal Memorial Center Funeral Home and Mortuary.
