The sun shined, the beer flowed and the jazz was hot at the Cathedral Park Jazz Festival.
Staged beneath the St. Johns Bridge at Cathedral Park, the festival, running from July 14 through 16, featured music, food and a beer and wine garden, plus thousands of Portland area neighbors out enjoying a good time.
Begun in 1981 as a party to honor local resident Howard Galbraith, the festival is now touted as the oldest and largest free jazz and blues event west of the Mississippi River. It occurs annually on the third weekend of July.

Jazz singer Kevin Mahogany, right, performs for the crowd while Phil Baker backs him up on the bass.
