UPDATE: Investigators say the fire was set deliberately.

A five-alarm fire at Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and N. E. Monroe has left most of a block charred and burning. The fire has destroyed a building under construction opposite the Garlington Center. Streets in the neighborhood remain closed. A battery store next to the fire was saved. The fire was so hot it melted gutters on the opposite side of the street.
