In honor of Oregon's 150th birthday and the volunteers who make Oregon a better place to live, three winning volunteers were chosen to ride PGE's "Take Care of Oregon" float in the Rose Festival Grand Floral Parade, June 6, including De La Salle North Catholic High School senior Shantel Monk. Monk, winner earlier this year of a scholarship from The Skanner, was honored with the 2009 Hands On Greater Portland Nathan Sibell Youth Leadership Award. She and fellow honorees Eric Provost of Milwaukie and Ray Clack of Oregon City rode atop the birthday-themed float inside colorful birthday packages symbolizing their gift of service to the Oregon community.
