Conference focuses on families" roles in students" success

Jefferson High School will host a conference for students and their families Friday, Oct. 5. Among the guest speakers will be Mayor Potter, PCC Cascade campus President Algie Gatewood and Washington State University Professor Armando Laguardia. Sam Brooks, chair of the Portland Business Alliance Board and the founder of the Oregon Association of Minority Entrepreneurs, will make the keynote speech.

Among the groups walking the route were The Crowned Jewels, representing the North and Northeast Portland-based group, It's All About You. Founded by Rev. New prevention strategy focuses on highest risk population

The King County Board of Health endorsed a strategy to reduce new HIV infections in King County by 25 percent by 2015. There are about 370 new HIV infections in King County each year, and the Board resolved to support a strategy that places the greatest emphasis on people at highest risk for HIV infection. The goal is to reduce new infections to 280 cases per year within eight years.
