MILWAUKEE (AP) -- With labor rights a prickly subject, Republican lawmakers in some states face a quandary about participating in Labor Day events.
In Wisconsin, legislators who supported Gov. Scott Walker's efforts to curb collective-bargaining rights are treading carefully. State Sen. Pam Galloway says she's attending a parade even though she knows some people won't be happy to see her. Other Republicans are staying away. Walker plans to spend Monday with his family.
In Ohio, where a new law this year also restricted collective bargaining, Gov. John Kasich planned to issue a proclamation honoring Labor Day but wasn't scheduled to go out among the crowds at Labor Day events.
Community events usually let politicians interact with voters who are in a celebratory mood. But Labor Day crowds might be vocal about their discontent.
