Oregon's Secretary of State has joined top election officials in six other states in sending a letter to the parent company of Facebook, asking it to stop allowing ads that claim the 2020 presidential election was stolen. In the letter addressed to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the secretaries said allowing such ads will further erode trust in elections and fuel threats of political violence against election workers

Black Americans are murdered at nearly eight times the rate of white Americans. Young Black men in inner cities are disproportionately affected. They are both the primary victims and perpetrators of gun assaults and homicides. This grave reality does not mean Black people are inherently violent. Instead, it largely reflects their disproportionate experience of systemic barriers such as poverty and limited access to quality education, good jobs and affordable housing – all factors that research shows contribute to neighborhood violence.

The minority leader of the House Democrats, Jeffries and the House Democratic leadership team decided this week they would help Speaker Mike Johnson stay on the job rather than be ousted by far-right Republicans led by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene. This comes after Jeffries already delivered the Democratic votes needed to fund the government and prevent a federal shutdown, send foreign aid to Ukraine and other allies, as Johnson's Republicans are beset by infighting and chaos. One Democrat called Jeffries the “shadow speaker” of the House.
