This Friday, April 2, skiers and riders can get a free all-day lift ticket valid 9 a.m.– 4 p.m. at Mt. Hood Skibowl by donating six cans of nonperishable food to the Portland Police Bureau Sunshine Division. Bring the canned food to the Sunshine Division's truck in the parking lot of Skibowl to receive your free lift ticket.
"Ski for Sunshine is a critical food-collection event for us," said Officer Phil Kent, Portland Police Bureau liaison with Sunshine Division. "It replenishes our warehouse for a spring and summer of helping to meet the ongoing needs of Portland's families and individuals in need of emergency food relief. We are increasingly seeing people who have never asked for assistance before, and they are choosing between paying their utility bills or buying adequate food for their families."
Since 1988, Ski for Sunshine has collected more than 60,000 pounds of food for the Sunshine Division. Throughout the years, that food has helped to make a difference in the lives of thousands of Portland-area families and individuals in need.
A nonprofit emergency food and clothing relief organization in unique partnership with the Portland Police Bureau, Sunshine Division operates year-round to provide temporary relief directly to Portland individuals and families who lack essential food and clothing, as well as to more than 30 food-relief agencies in five counties.
Thanks to generous donations of food and finances from both individuals and corporations, the 87-year-old charity receives, manages, and distributes over a million pounds of food every year.
