"Challenging People to Shape a Better Future Now" is the cornerstone of The Skanner Foundation's mission. We know people can improve their future by the positive actions they take now, rather than letting the circumstances of the past hold them back. Through our programs, we help students in their pursuit of education to improve their chances for a bright, successful future.

Establishing a history of support through scholarships, The Skanner Foundation desired to expand its outreach to include support for technological and business training. For many people, computer education is a springboard for career development and employment opportunities.

With the development of an on-site technology training facility, housed at the offices of The Skanner Foundation and The Skanner News Group, the goal to expand became a reality. Training center classes began in Spring 1998.

The Skanner Foundation Technology Center offers various levels of computer technology training to help people develop and become proficient in computer skills.

The technology center is a project supported in part by The Oregon Economic Development Department, The Black United Fund of Oregon, and The Skanner News Group.

Our ongoing challenge is to generate a solid base of support from organizations and individuals that share our vision of a better future now for the North/Northeast Portland community.

For more information about The Skanner Foundation or to find out how you can contribute, contact Bernie Foster, [email protected].
